Dear user,

There're a few reasons for error 691 to occur:

1. Multiple login

In ResNet, ClassNet and dialup access(including VPN connection via public ISP), multiple login is not allowed. If you are using any of the above services, you will not be able to use any other services at the same time. Disconnect the other connection you have made and try again.
You may also provide us with the time of failure so that we can check the system log to confirm this.

2. Unterminated VPN session

There could have been another idle connection initiated from your account left in the system. Please inform our administrator to remove it.
This is not the kind of problem that happens frequently. However, in case the same problem happens again, we suggest you wait for some 30 minutes, then retry. You are also advised to disconnect from ResNet manually before shutting down your PC.

3. CWEM / Resnet account disabled

You may check if you can login to CUHK webmail using your CWEM account at
http://webmail.cuhk.edu.hk
If you fail to login, you may have entered a wrong computing ID or password. Please check them again or you may come to the consultation room to get a new password.

4. Password too long / Password not in sync

The VPN server has a password limit shorter than that accepts by CWEM, if you password is too long, it is advisable to try changing it to a shorter one. Some times the passwords on different server may not be in sync, try setting your password again may help too.

Would you please first make sure your CWEM password is correct by logging into the CWEM webmail interface at http://webmail.cuhk.edu.hk . It is also possible that your password in our various systems are not in sync, please try setting your password again here: https://accounts.itsc.cuhk.edu.hk/reset ... ndex2.html . Finally, if your password is too long, our VPN server may not be able to handle it, please try setting a shorter password.
